Originally released in 1997, the American Platinum Eagle is the official platinum bullion coin of the United States and is offered in four denominations. Consisting of .9995 fine platinum, the 1/10, ¼, ½ and 1-troy-ounce coins are backed by the United States Mint for weight and content.
Proof and uncirculated versions are available for collectors as well, with a different reverse design featured on the proof 1-troy-ounce coin.
